Two suspects arrested for possession of multiple explosives to appear in court

POLOKWANE – Two suspects who were arrested by members of Beitbridge Task Team on Friday 23 September 2022 after they were found in possession of explosives along the N1 road, will appear in the Musina magistrate court tomorrow, 26 September 2022.


Members of Beitbridge Task Team were busy along the N1 road between Musina and Beitbridge, conducting a stop and search operation when they stopped a suspicious blue Toyota Corolla sedan with two occupants. Upon searching the vehicle, the members found four bags in the boot of the car containing two hundred and forty seven (247) blasting cartridges, 1,250 connector capped fuses and seven reels of detonating cords.


The suspects were immediately apprehended on the spot and the explosives as well as the motor vehicle confiscated.


The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members involved for their dedication in ridding this Province of criminality.


Police investigations into the origin of these explosives and intended destination are underway.

Ntabethemba SAPS engaging the youth through sport against crime

CHRIS HANI DISTRICT – The South African Police Service in Ntabethemba, Chris Hani District celebrated Heritage Day in a different style, as they made an effort to enhance relations with the community through sport over the weekend. The two-day sport tournament took place at Rocklands Sport Grounds in Rocklands Location under Ntabethemba SAPS policing precinct on 24 and 25 September 2022.


The well-organised and successful initiative was a result of sterling and diligent work by a hardworking Community Police Officer, (CPO) Constable Mninawa Mboniswa, who organised soccer and netball teams from various areas, and further mobilised youth to support the tournament.


The South African Police Service worked with a well-known and popular non-profit organization in the area, Thirty One Status (TOS) in ensuring success of the initiative.


Station Commander of Ntabethemba SAPS, Captain Mphumzi Mene described the sport activity as an effective move to engage youth of different areas in an effort to fight crime in various environments to ensure safe and secure society, and also close gaps between the SAPS and the community they serve. “This is an annual tournament that we utilise as a platform to engage youth and educate them about a number of issues that relate to fighting crime. This kind of initiative is also an effort to close gaps between the police and community we serve. And we have been successful in doing that,” the Station Commander said.


Captain Mene went on by indicating that the initiative was part of Pillar Five of Operation Sikhona, that talks to Social Crime Awareness and Education Campaign, and also carried an objective of reducing crime in the Eastern Cape Province by rooting out lawlessness uncompromisingly.


He concluded by appreciating involvement of internal and and external stakeholders in ensuring success of the initiative. “We wish to thank and appreciate all role-players, including Corporate Communication and Liaison and non-profit organisation, Thirty One Status for their involvement in ensuring success of the initiative. The success was a result of collective commitment,” Captain Mene concluded.

Firearms recovered at Ntuzuma

DURBAN – On 21 September 2022 at 09:30, police officers from the Provincial Vehicle and Trio Task Team were searching for a vehicle that was stolen from Sydenham during a house robbery in March 2022.


During the operation police officers spotted the vehicle travelling at a high speed. Police chased the vehicle, which was eventually abandoned by the suspects. When the abandoned vehicle was searched, police found an AK47 rife, three pistols and 54 rounds of ammunition inside. An investigation is underway to trace the perpetrators.

Vhuthu Hawe operation nets suspects in the province

NORTHERN CAPE – The SAPS across the province embarked on different crime prevention actions and arrested suspects for allegedly being involved in criminal activities.


In Homevale, Kimberley and Ikhutseng, Warrenton police followed up on information and arrested 3 male suspects with a total of 500 Mandrax worth about R50 000-00.


The SAPS also confiscated cash amounting to R16 000-00 which is the alleged proceeds of drug sales on 22 September 2022.


Three males were also arrested for aggravated robbery in Green Street in Kimberley on


23 September 2022. The victims stopped a patrol vehicle patrolling in the area and the males were arrested after being caught red handed.


Police also retrieved 10 cartons of cigarettes they allegedly robbed from the victim.


On 23 September 2022 in Victoria West police confiscated 600 litres concoction. One male suspect arrested and police seized 3 stolen sheep carcasses, 50 bags of cement and 5 Dixon car batteries. Police also confiscated 258 dog food tablets which the suspect allegedly sold as Mandrax tablets.


In Olifantshoek two alleged drug houses were raided and police found 253 dagga pokes and 203 Mandrax tablets with a total street of R20 000-00. Two male suspects were arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs.


All the suspects will be appearing in their respective local courts soon. Police will continue unabatedly with similar operations and squeeze the space for criminals to operate across the Northern Cape.

Greytown hostel rapist sentenced to life

DURBAN – On 22 September 2022, the Greytown Regional Court convicted and sentenced Nqubeko Dlamini (27) to life imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl at the Greytown Hostel.


The sentence came after the court heard how Dlamini raped the child who was visiting her friend who resides at the hostel. On 24 March 2020, the girl was leaving the hostel when she was grabbed by the man who forced her into his room and raped her.


The matter was reported to police immediately and police acted swiftly with the suspect being arrested on the day of the incident. He was charged for rape and made several appearances at court before he was convicted and sentenced.
