WTA Italian Open: Ons Jabeur knocked out of second round

Tunisia’s tennis player Ons Jabeur (world No. 7), on Friday, was knocked out of the second round of the WTA Italian Open by Spanish Paula Badosa (world No. 35) 1-6, 4-6.

Jabeur, who was exempt from the first round, had reached the final of the previous edition, before losing to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek (2-6, 2-6).

Somali, Kenyan and Ethiopian cross-border project launched……

The Minister for Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Sheikh Ali (Doodishe), participated in the launch of the cross-border land management project between Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia, which took place in Kenya.

‘This is an important initiative that will contribute to maintaining peace and stability in border regions shared by the three countries,’ said the Minister for Internal Security.

Mr. Ali stated that the project aims to improve the livelihoods of people living in border regions, reduce conflict, and create economic opportunities.

The program launch was attended by the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, the Governor of Mandera, the Kenyan Minister of Interior, the Ethiopian Minister of Peace, the Somali Ambassador to Kenya, and other officials.

Detention warrant issued against former governor of Gabes in corruption case

The investigating judge at the Gabes court of first instance issued a detention warrant for the former governor of Gabes in a case related to the fraudulent allocation of fodder sale permits.

First deputy public prosecutor to the Gabes court of first instance Mounir Arroum told TAP that the ex-governor has been charged with using his position to procure for himself or a third party an unjustified advantage, and causing damage to the administration.

The ex-governor was sentenced on April 13, 2023, to three months in prison for having continued to exercise his functions after an official decision to dismiss him.

Parliament Speaker Meets with UN Officials to Discuss Elections and Governance

The Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Aadan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe) on Thursday received a delegation led by the Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) Electoral and Peacebuilding Office, Mr. Serge G. Kubwimana, Ms. Mikyong Kim, who heads the Political Affairs Section of the Office, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Elections and Democratic Governance and UNDP Country Director for Somalia, Mr. Luis Martinez Betanzos and Mr. Walter Lotze, respectively.

Speaker Sheikh Aadan Madoobe and the UNDP and UNSOM officials discussed the importance of upcoming elections in the country and the various types of elections that could be held, as well as how to ensure that the country holds a better election than previous ones.

The UNDP and UNSOM officials also noted that the Speaker of Parliament will play an important role in the development of the parliament, training of parliamentary staff and members, and emphasized their support for the completion of the review of the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia and important legal frameworks for the country.
