Anthea Topps-murder suspect (35yrs) behind bars

BEAUFORT-WEST- Thorough investigation by a multi-disciplinary investigation team has ensured the arrest of a suspect sought in connection with the recent murder of Anthea Topps in Beaufort-West. The Cluster Commander, Brigadier Johan Du Toit had nothing but praise for the investigation officer and his team that worked tirelessly to bring this suspect to book. The team consisted of members of the Beaufort-West Detective branch, Cluster Detectives, Cluster Tracing Team, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) and the Central Karoo and Outeniqua K9 Unit’s, Detection dog.

Evidence gathered by the Investigation Officer, Sergeant Chris Okkers, which included the tracing of the murder victim’s cellphone, led police to an address in Delo Street where the suspect was seen earlier today. He fled when he realised police was approaching him. Police members were soon joined by community members in pursuing the suspect. Eventually, at about 12:30, members cornered him in an outside toilet in a yard in the same street where he took cover. He was arrested on the spot and brought to the Beaufort-West SAPS where he was processed and detained.

He is scheduled to appear in the Beaufort-West Magistrate’s court on Monday, 12 August 2019, once being charged for Murder.

Acting Provincial Commissioner for the Western Cape, Lt General Sindile Mfazi commended those involved in the investigation for the thorough and speedy finalisation of the murder case that shocked the Central Karoo Town of Beaufort-West less than a month ago on 21 July 2019.
