The new school year 2023-2024 will start on September 15, Education Minister Mohamed Ali Boughdiri said.
Some 2 million 650 thousand pupils will join their classes in schools, middle and high schools, he pointed out, adding that his department had finished the necessary preparations to ensure a successful start to the new school year.
In an interview with TAP on Friday, Boughdiri indicated that an accelerated pace of meetings in preparation for the new school year had been seen in recent days, saying that the Ministry, in coordination with the government, had mobilised the necessary human and financial resources to ensure a safe resumption of the school year.
Boughdiri also announced the opening of 11 new educational establishments, bringing the total number of schools to 6,139.
The number of pupils for this year has risen slightly compared with last year, he underlined, adding that more than 230,000 teachers will be on duty this year.
A working session was held between the Ministries of Education and the Interior to ensure the security of areas surrounding schools, Boughdiri said, adding that the two departments had drawn up an action plan to ensure the security of schools.
