Electoral register update moving forward, says ISIE’s Bouasker

The electoral register update is moving forward, said President of the Independent High Authority for Elections (French : ISIE) Farouk Bouasker, with 330,000 updates so far. Indicators also show 1.2 million voter update verification operations via mobile phones were reported, in addition to 2,500 online updates, Bouasker Saturday told reporters on the sidelines of a training session on candidacies in Sousse intended for members of regional commissions. Renewal of membership of regional authorities exceeds 50%. The independence of members ( judges, IT engineers and former members) guarantees the smooth conduct of elections. Candidate filing for December 24 local elections starts on October 23 and runs over a period of ten days. The election commission intends to launch a large-scale awareness campaign in the runup to elections to simplify concepts in connection to the local council. The duties of the local council are different from those of the municipal council, Bouasker said, as it is an elected body in charge of devising development and infrastructure projects. ISIE President put forward a number of recommendations in connection to the election calender and organisation mechanisms at the opening of the training session.
