Energy transition: Tunisia’s experience at centre of webinar

The experiences of Tunisia and Lebanon in energy transition were outlined at a webinar held Thursday by the Natural Resources Governance Institute. The event was organised under the theme “Energy Transition and the Pathway to the UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 28).” Tunisia raised its renewable energy ambitions as part of the national energy transition strategy to 8,053 MW by 2050. The share of renewables in power production was also revised up to 35% by 2030 from 30%. These tagets cannot be attained unless practices of good governance are introduced along with an adequate legal framework and enforceable implementing decrees, said Vice Director of Renewable Energies Khaled Daraouil, Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy. Renewables stand as a solution to address Tunisia’s energy deficit (about 50% in 2022) and its dependence on fossil energies.
