Man sentenced for job recruitment payment

KWAZULU-NATAL – The Port Shepstone Magistrates’ Court convicted and sentenced Mthokozisi Mhlongo (28) for corruption on 24 May 2021.

In June 2018, Mhlongo attempted to entice a SAPS recruitment official at a police station in Port Shepstone in order to be recruited into SAPS without following proper procedures and offered to pay R10 000-00 to the official. The incident was reported to the Hawks in Port Shepstone and a sting operation was conducted which led to his arrest. R10 000-00 cash that he attempted to use was recovered and has been forfeited to the State.

He was fined a R10 000-00 or 10 months imprisonment in default of payment and further four years imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years.
