MEC of Community Safety in Gauteng joins provincial commissioner of SAPS as he leads the multi-disciplinary O Kae Operation

On the evening of 07 May 2022, the MEC of Community Safety, Ms Faith Mazibuko joined the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela as he led the multi-disciplinary integrated Operation O Kae Molao which resulted in the arrest of more than 800 suspects throughout the province.

The weekly operation is conducted simultaneously in five districts in the province with the aim of fighting any criminal activities and restoring law and order in the province.

The Provincial Commissioner and the MEC, this week led the one that was held in Yeoville in Johannesburg District whereby various crime prevention actions such as roadblock, stop and searches, compliance inspection of liquor outlets, including tracing of wanted suspects were conducted and resulted in the arrest of 239 suspects.

The District Commissioners also continued with the operation at their respective districts with the support of other law enforcement agencies such as Metro Police Department, Department of Traffic, Immigration from Department of Home Affairs, Community Police Forum, Fidelity Security and Tracker under the umbrella of the eyes and ears project.

During these operations, several seizures were made, including liquor from illegal liquor outlets, drugs, dagga and unlicensed firearms.

Some of the arrested suspects were released on fines, while the others are expected to start appearing at different Magistrates’ court from Monday, 09 May 2022.

All the law enforcement agencies and stakeholders involved, including the community members are appreciated for their continuous efforts in assisting in the fight against crime.
