Media Invitation: Police minister to pay homage to Eastern Cape officer who drowned in the line of duty

The South African Police Service will this Saturday, 15 January 2022 gather in their collective grieve, to bid farewell to one of their own, Captain Pierre Marx.

The 53-year-old member was on Saturday, 08 January 2022 attending a complaint of drowning together with his co-divers from the East London K9 Search and Rescue unit.

It is during the rescue mission in the Horse Shoe Valley area that Captain Marx struggled with a strong current, sweeping him into the heavy stream. His body was recovered in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The floods in the province have claimed the lives of 21 people.

Captain Pierre Marx was well-known member of the SAPS who was recognised for his outstanding heroic rescue activities within the Province. He has won a couple of Bravery Awards and was very popular among various communities who witnessed his sense of commitment to his work as a seasoned police diver.

Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will deliver the eulogy at the funeral service of Captain Pierre Marx to be held on Saturday in East London.

Members of the media are invited to attend the funeral service.
