MFA source denies statement attributed to Nabil Ammar on Tunisian peace initiative between occupied entity and State of Palestine

An authorised source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad has denied what was published on the website of Alaraby TV about Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar’s announcement of a Tunisian initiative for peace between the occupied entity and the state of Palestine. The source said in a statement to TAP on Tuesday that “the foreign minister never raised this issue during his meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov or during the joint press conference”. He stressed that Tunisia’s position on the Palestinian issue is clear and consistent and has been expressed by the President of the Republic on all occasions, and the Foreign Minister works to defend this position in all regional and international forums, as well as in his meetings with his foreign counterparts. On Tuesday, the Alaraby TV published a news item attributing a statement to Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar about efforts to resume Palestinian-Israeli negotiations on the basis of the Arab Peace Initiative. Later in the broadcast, the channel apologised for the mistake and explained that the statement had been made by the Russian foreign minister during a joint press conference with his Tunisian counterpart. The President of the Republic and the Foreign Minister have always stressed Tunisia’s firm position on the just Palestinian cause and its support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle to regain their rights to self-determination, independence and dignity and to establish their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
