No less than ten people- pupils and teachers- at Chott Essalem primary school in Gabés suffered asphyxiation Friday with gas emitted by the Tunisian Chemical Group (French: GCT) (French: GCT).
The victims were rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Gabés, a medical source told TAP.
The asphyxiation was caused by uncontrolled gas emissions from a GCT industrial unit in the area.
The families of victims as well as a number of locals urged action to deal with these life-threatening risks.
They called for GCT plants to be relocated to other unpopulated areas.
