Two suspects are expected to appear in the Barkly West Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 04 October 2021 following their arrest on Friday, 01 October 2021 at approximately 00:05 on the R31.

Delportshoop police received a tip-off regarding a silver grey Toyota Tazz, driving from Postmasburg on the R31 road in the direction of Kimberley, loaded with possible stolen livestock.

Police acted promptly to the alert, and the alleged Toyota Tazz was spotted on the R31 near Delportshoop. It was pulled over and searched. During the search police found one sheep with its feet tied loaded in the boot of the vehicle. The suspects failed to give a satisfactory explanation, as to who the rightful owner was. The Kimberley Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit is investigating to determine the ownership, since the suspects failed to prove ownership.

The South African Police Service continues to encourage livestock owners to tattoo and brand mark their livestock, because brand marked and tattooed livestock can be easily identified when stolen or lost.

The Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Johan Bean commended Delportshoop police officers for their prompt response to the tip-off which led to the arrest of the suspects.
