Police implement 72 hour activation after fatal shooting

GQEBERHA – Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata has immediately implemented the 72 hour activation plan following the fatal shooting of two men and the injuring of another three in Malabar Extension 6 during the early hours of this morning, 15 November 2022.

It is alleged that at about 00:46, a group of males broke down the door at a house in Calvert Street looking for the owner’s son. Four occupants in the house managed to escape while the five victims were rounded up and shot in the kitchen. Two males, Ruben Stuurman (28) and Yano Richards(24) sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the scene while another three aged between 20 and 26-year-old sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

The motive for the shootings are under investigation and the suspects are unknown at this stage.

Maj Gen Ncata has urged the team of investigators to track and trace the perpetrators in the quickest time possible. ”We are appealing to the communities to assist the police in tracing these heartless criminals and not to harbour them. Lives have been lost and we cannot condone such lawlessness. This act of criminality, we take seriously and it will not be tolerated. Given the seriousness of what has happened, the 72 hour activation plan is implemented and a team of detectives have been assigned to expedite the investigation as well as trace these suspects and bring them to book” added Maj Gen Ncata.
