Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

DUTYWA – Commitment displayed by Dutywa police in ensuring that firearms are off the streets led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man today, 13 February 2022 at Timani Village, Dutywa.

Police were conducting crime combatting patrols at Dutywa Town when they received information about a man that was in possession of a firearm. The members followed up on the information which led them to the house of the suspect in Timani Village, Dutywa. Police asked for permission to search the house and was granted. Upon searching they found a 9mm Norinco pistol. When the police asked the suspect to produce the licence for the firearm he couldn’t produce one. He was then arrested immediately.

The suspect is due to appear before the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 14 February 2021.

The Acting Amathole District Commissioner, Brigadier Zinakile Freddie applauded the members in their sterling work in ensuring that communities live in a safe environment.
