Suspect held for armed robbery and murder

DURBAN � On Saturday, 31 August 2019 an armed business robbery and murder took place at Samungu area in Sundumbili. Allegedly three heavily armed suspects entered the premises of a 59-year-old lady who was running shop. The suspects assaulted and stabbed the lady until she succumbed to her injuries. The suspects stole groceries, cellphones and money from the shop and fled the scene.

Police worked hard in trying to trace and arrest the individuals who were involved in this heinous act of criminality. The hard work paid dividends when information was received of a possible suspect who was involved in the armed robbery and murder case at Samungu. On Tuesday, 02 September 2019 police members from Sundumbili detectives, Mandeni detectives, Empangeni Vehicle Identification Section as well as the Empangeni Public Order Policing held a joint operation where a 38-year-old suspect was arrested. During the arrest the suspect was found in possession of a G3 assault rifle with 3 rounds of ammunition and five cellphones which were linked to the case at Samungu. The suspect was charged and will be appearing at Nyoni Magistrate Court today.
