Suspects face charges for possession of an unlicensed firearm and drugs

Police members of Operation Restore responded to information in the early hours of Friday 12 August. Upon arrival at the identified address in Gugulethu, they entered the premises and conducted an intensive search and confiscated 435 mandrax tablets and a small quantity of Methamphetamine. A 72-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Once charged he is expected to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate court on the mentioned charge.

In an unrelated matter members of Philippi police and the Anti-Gang Unit arrested three suspects aged 29 and two 44 respectively for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs in Hanover Park and Isiqalo informal settlement. During these arrests a pistol with rounds of ammunition, a of total 70 units heroin and 43 stops dagga were confiscated.

Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates court.
