Tunisia is hosting, for the first time, the 11th edition of the Arab International Conference on Quality Assurance in Higher Education being held on November 8 and 9 under the aegis of the Higher Education and Scientific Research Ministry. Orhanized by the University of Tunis El Manar in partnership with the Jordanian University Ezzarka, the conference brings together a large number of academic researchers from 16 Arab countries. The event seeks to disseminate the culture of quality assurance and its practices within Arab universities so as to meet the needs of the job market. Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister, Moncef Boukthir told journalists that Tunisia is committed to the process of quality higher education by developing programmes since 2007. The minister underlined that all medical schools in Tunisia are internationally accredited. Several training courses in engineering schools have also obtained accreditation, the latest of which is «l’école polytechnique de Tunisie», he added. He spoke of the Tunisian Agency of Evaluation and Accreditation in Higher Education and Scientific Research which was created in 2022. The Agency which, works autonomously, evaluates state and private universities . President of the University of Tunis El Manar, Moez Chafra, stressed that the choice of Tunisia decided to host the 11th Arab International Conference to ensure that the quality of higher education is not fortuitous. It is a recognition of the prestigious status of higher education in Tunisia, he added. He recalled that the University of Tunis El Manar ranked among the 22 best universities in the world in terms of teaching quality according to the «Times Higher Education Impact» ranking for 2023. It ranked 2nd in Africa and 4th in the Arab world. This ranking assesses the contribution of universities to achieving the 17th UN Sustainable Development Goal, which concerns quality education.
