Tunis to host International Symposium on ‘Diversity of Food Cultures’ from October 26 to 28

An international Symposium on «Diversity of Food Cultures, Resources for a Sustainable World» will be held from October 26 to 28, at the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Beit al-Hikma, in Carthage-Hannibal, in the suburbs of Tunis.

The Beit al-Hikma Academy co-organising the event with the Contemporary Maghreb Research Institute (IRMC) and the Research Institute for Development-France (IRD-France), in partnership with the Higher Institute of Tourism, Hotels and Food (University of Toulouse – Jean Jaurès).

“The symposium will focus on the «food landscape» in its extraordinary diversity of food choices, production practices, product processing, food culture and heritage throughout the world according to a sociological and scientific manner. It will also shed light on sustainable food amid the current environmental challenges,” reads a press release of the Academy.

The symposium will be marked by the organisation of 5 sessions. Various themes will be addressed during each session.

Tunisian and foreign experts and academics, from various backgrounds, will speak extensively of the theme of the diversity of food cultures. The 5 scheduled sessions are entitled: “Food Cultures, Resources to Share”, “The Diversity of Food Cultures in the Service of Food Security”, «Sustainable Food and Environmental Challenges”, “Food Heritage, Health and Well-being”, “Food Heritage, Gastronomic Creativity and Tourism.”
