Tunisia needs to upgrade water governance (UN official)

Tunisia needs to improve its water management and secure access to drinking water, said UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation Pedro Arrojo Agudo. The remarks came as the UN official attended by videoconference an annual water meeting which addressed the water crisis in Tunisia. The three-day event (September 22-24) was held by Nomad08 civil society organisation. Pedro Arrojo Agudo mainly shed light on groundwater over-exploitation and the situation of infrastructure which, he said, demonstrate poor water governance in the country. The official visited Tunisia in July 2022. A report containing recommendations was released on July 28,2022.
