Ba-Ga Mothibi Tribal Authority Commits to Using Water Prudently After Obtaining Water Use License

Ba-Ga Mothibi Tribal Council and over 80 Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDI’s) yesterday committed to using water effectively, efficiently and with prudence after they recently obtained a water use license from the Department of Water and Sanitation – 14 communities will benefit from the water use license.

Her Majesty Kgosi Ponatshego Mothibi of the Batlhaping, expressed heartfelt gratitude for finally getting a water use license for her people. “Obtaining the water use license is just the beginning, we have big plans on how we are going to utilize this water, especially in the advancement of our people. Irrigation and livestock farming will definitely also be taken to another level”, Her Majesty said at a workshop yesterday hosted by the Department of Water and Sanitation in Hartswater, Northern Cape.

Provincial Head for the Department of Water and Sanitation in the Northern Cape Ms. Iketletso Lekalake says the “department invited the private sector to the workshop to talk to the beneficiaries about support programmes they have and information on available methodology and technologies for farming”.

Some of the institutions invited included Standard Bank, Bayer, Kynotech, Land Bank and Agrico. In attendance as well from the sector departments were the Department of Agriculture Rural Development and Land Reform and, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment who workshopped the attendees on government support programmes for emerging farmers and HDI’s.
