The International Organisation for the Protection of Mediterranean Children announced the launch of a national awareness campaign under the banner “No to the destruction of public education in Tunisia”.<\/p>\n
The aim of this campaign is to restore trust between students and teachers and save the end of the current school year. The president of the association, Rym Belkhdhiri, said Tuesday in a statement to TAP, that this campaign targets teachers and students through awareness circles in high schools and schools.<\/p>\n
The various parties concerned are called upon to participate in this campaign, by supporting it and presenting proposals that will help avoid the collapse of public education, she said. The escalation between the Ministry of Education and the basic and secondary education unions is contributing to the crisis of education in Tunisia, Belkhdhir said.<\/p>\n
Schools and high schools are no longer spaces for education and teaching but have become spaces for trade union conflict and social demands, she regretted.<\/p>\n
The organization said Tuesday in a statement that the retention of grades, the idea of an automatic class passage, and its negative repercussions, prompted the organisation to launch this national campaign aimed at Tunisians, including teachers, trade unionists and officials in the education sector, calling not to destroy public education.<\/p>\n
The organisation called, at the same time, to speed up the establishment of a higher council of education and to diversify its composition. Saving public education essentially requires new ideas and a national will, the same source added.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
