Ben Arous: Citrus fruit production in the Governorate of Ben Arous for the 2023 / 2024 agricultural season is estimated at 23,700 tonnes, an increase of around 18% compared to last season, according to figures from the Regional Agricultural Development Authority (CRDA).

Despite this positive trend, this season’s production has been affected by unfavourable weather conditions (higher temperatures) and a lack of irrigation water, which were more pronounced last season when production did not exceed 20,000 tonnes, according to the same source.

The total area devoted to citrus fruit production in the region is estimated at around 1,700 ha, of which 1,595 ha are productive areas, mainly in Mornag and Khelidia.

Citrus plantations in the region are spread over 160 hectares for lemons (around 2,600 tonnes), while the rest of the area is planted with different varieties of orange trees, with a production of over 21,000 tonnes
