Pretoria: The Department of Transport has confirmed the precautionary suspension of Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Chief Executive Officer, Advocate Makhosini Msibi. The suspension took effect at the beginning of July.
According to South African Government News Agency, Deputy Minister of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa, who is the delegated shareholder responsible for the RTMC, has been officially informed of Msibi’s suspension by the Board of Directors following their meeting on June 13, 2025. The department emphasized that the suspension is initially set for 30 days but may be extended to 60 days or longer if necessary.
The Board’s decision came after whistleblowers alleged financial misconduct, irregular expenditure, and governance failures within the RTMC. Due to the severity of the allegations, a forensic investigation has been initiated. In the interim, Ms. Refilwe Mongale has been appointed as the Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2025, to ensure stability during the investigation.
Simultaneously, the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has placed its Group Executive for Enterprise Security and Compliance, Lt-General Mzwandile Petros, on precautionary suspension. This decision is connected to an independent investigation into alleged operational irregularities.
ACSA stated that the suspension is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the investigative process. Ms. Mary-Ann Joubert has been appointed as the acting Group Executive for Enterprise Security and Compliance to ensure operational continuity. ACSA has committed to providing updates once the investigation concludes.
