Alexander Bay SAPS Response to Community Tip-Off Leads to Arrest of Foreign National


Alexander bay: The Alexander Bay SAPS, after responding to information provided by the community, were able to successfully execute an operation, which led to the seizure of illicit liquor and tobacco products.



According to South African Police Service, members of Alexander Bay SAPS received information regarding alleged illicit activities at a plot in Sanddrift. A search warrant was subsequently obtained and executed. During the search of the identified premises, alcohol and illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of R47,000 were seized.



A 30-year-old male Pakistani was arrested and charged for the contravention of the Northern Cape Gambling and Liquor Act 6/2024 and dealing in illicit tobacco products. The suspect was released on a SAPS 496 pending further investigation.



The District Commissioner of Namakwa, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, commended and appreciated the local community for their assistance in reporting criminal activities. He indicated that this was a clear indication of the partnership between SAPS and the community.
