Alford Sifiso Nsibande Appointed CEO of Independent Development Trust

Pretoria:According to the South African Government News Agency, the appointment of Alford Sifiso Nsibande as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Independent Development Trust (IDT) has been welcomed by the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson. This decision follows the Cabinet's approval on 23 September 2026.

Nsibande, who has been serving as Acting CEO since 4 November 2025, took on the role after the resignation of the previously suspended CEO. During his tenure as Acting CEO, significant improvements in the financial and operational aspects of the IDT were recorded. Notably, the IDT's confirmed order book grew from R2 billion to R6 billion, and its cash reserves tripled from a state of severe financial constraints.

The IDT also exceeded expectations in delivering social infrastructure projects, completing 279 facilities against a target of 244 for the 2025/26 financial year.

The IDT Board of Trustees announced that Nsibande's appointment as permanent CEO will be effective from 1 October 2026. The selection was made following a comprehensive and competitive recruitment process. Zimbini Hill, Chairperson of the IDT Board of Trustees, expressed confidence in Nsibande's leadership, citing his successful track record and achievements, including delivering a clean audit at the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).

The IDT, an entity of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, specializes in managing and delivering integrated public infrastructure programs.
