Pretoria: Applications for the 2027 WorldSkills South Africa (WSZA) National Competition will officially open on 1 September 2026, inviting eligible students to showcase their talent, innovation, skills, and creativity in 34 skill areas. The competition is open to students undertaking studies toward a qualification related to the skill at various educational institutions, or those in apprenticeships or learnerships related to the skill, or candidates with an accredited qualification in the related skill, according to the Department of Higher Education and Training through WSZA.
According to South African Government News Agency, WorldSkills is a global organization promoting vocational, technological, and service-oriented education and training. It engages 72 Member countries and regions, working collaboratively with youth, educators, governments, and industries to prepare today's workforce for future jobs. WorldSkills provides youth the opportunity to compete and learn in their chosen skill, impacting skill levels globally with support from partners, industries, governments, volunteers, and educational institutions.
The department has encouraged early submissions of applications, ensuring all required information and supporting documents are included. "We are excited to open applications for WSZA National Competitions and look forward to receiving entries from talented and innovative individuals across TVET colleges, universities of Technology, CET colleges, private training providers, and technical high schools," said Fumane Mboweni, Acting Technical Delegate for WSZA. This initiative offers participants a platform to showcase their skills and potentially advance their ideas and talents.
Interested participants can apply online, with full competition details, eligibility requirements, terms and conditions, The closing date for applications is 30 April 2027.
