Breakthrough Arrests in DJ Sumbody Murder Case


Pretoria: Four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody. Sefoka was killed in a shooting in November 2022.



According to South African Government News Agency, the National Commissioner of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, has welcomed the latest breakthrough by the SAPS Political Killings Task Team working closely with Gauteng Organised Crime Detectives. Gauteng organised crime detectives initially handled the case and later involved the SAPS Political Killings Task Team for further investigation.



The arrests were made in Gauteng on Monday afternoon, with three suspects believed to be hitmen and one suspected of ordering the hit on DJ Sumbody. The police have seized the weapon allegedly used in the crime, which has been linked to other murders. All four suspects, aged between 45 and 60, are in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon. They face charges including murder and conspiracy to commit murder.



Masemola stated that this development marks a significant breakthrough, offering hope for closure to the families involved. He praised the teams for piecing together evidence since November 2022, emphasizing the importance of thorough investigation to present a strong case in court.
