Pretoria: The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton Mckenzie, has called for nominations for independent, suitably qualified individuals with knowledge of anti-doping in sport for appointment as board members of the South African Institute for Drug-free Sport (SAIDS).
According to South African Government News Agency, nominees should possess a relevant degree or equivalent qualifications and have more than five years of professional experience in fields such as law, sports medicine, sport management, sport science, or law enforcement. Additionally, nominees need to demonstrate knowledge of corporate governance, familiarity with the King IV and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and an understanding of policy implementation. A familiarity with anti-doping issues and trends, strong ethical values, and professional respect and recognition by peers in their occupational field are also required.
In line with the government’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has encouraged applications from women, youth, and persons with disabilities. “The term of office for the Board is for a period of five years, commencing from the date of appointment in 2025 until 2030. The remuneration will be made in accordance with Treasury guidelines for public entities,” the department stated.
Individuals wishing to nominate candidates to serve as members of SAIDS should submit a letter containing the nominee’s full names, address, and telephone numbers, along with the reasons for their nomination. A recently updated Curriculum Vitae, including three contactable references, a brief statement signed by the nominee explaining their suitability for appointment, and copies of qualifications and ID documents must also be submitted.
Nominations are to be sent to the Acting Director-General of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture by the closing date of 6 July 2025 via e-mail to: [email protected]. Incomplete nominations will not be considered, and correspondence will only be entered into with shortlisted candidates. If applicants have not been contacted within three months of the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful.
