Call to Commemorate Mandela Month and National Science Month

Pretoria: Cabinet is calling on all South Africans to dedicate their time to help build a better country that works for all. This initiative coincides with the country's observance of Mandela Month in July.

According to South African Government News Agency, South Africa will commemorate Mandela Month under the theme "It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity." On Nelson Mandela International Day, which falls on 18 July 2026, citizens are encouraged to contribute their time and efforts to foster a society that benefits all South Africans. The government has emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the nation's challenges.

In addition to Mandela Month, July also marks National Science Month. This event will kick off on 4 July 2026 at the Vaal University of Technology Southern Gauteng Science and Technology Park in Sebokeng. The theme for this year's science celebration is "Science, Technology and Innovation are for everyone."

The objectives of National Science Month include fostering a society that is knowledgeable about science and capable of forming independent opinions on science, technology, and innovation. The month-long celebration aims to instill confidence in science, scientists, and scientific institutions, encouraging public engagement with scientific endeavours.
