CoGTA Deputy Minister Leads Accountability Engagement with Emfuleni Local Municipality


Emfuleni: The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr. Namane Dickson Masemola, is spearheading an intergovernmental accountability engagement with the Emfuleni Local Municipality.



According to South African Government News Agency, Monday’s visit is part of the national ‘Every Municipality Must Work’ campaign. This initiative aims to enhance local government performance through coordinated support under the District Development Model (DDM).



Emfuleni is facing significant issues, including financial mismanagement, inadequate service delivery, and deteriorating infrastructure. The focus of the engagement will be to address these persistent service delivery challenges and capacity constraints, as well as to remove barriers to effective governance, as stated by the department.



The Deputy Minister plans to meet with local leadership and stakeholders to evaluate the operational performance of the municipality. According to the department, the meeting will be held at the Emfuleni Municipal Offices. Media representatives will have the opportunity to cover the opening session and interview the leadership present.
