Cape town: Municipalities in the Eastern Cape are set to experience cold weather conditions, with cloudy skies anticipated over the interior regions and morning fog in some areas. Otherwise, the weather is expected to be fine and cool to cold, with very cold conditions predicted along the Drakensberg and adjacent areas.
According to South African Government News Agency, the affected municipalities include Emalahleni, Sakhisizwe, Senqu, Elundini, and Matatiele Local Municipalities. Additionally, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds. These winds may cause localized damage to temporary structures and reduce visibility due to dust storms, affecting the northern parts of the West Coast District, Witzenberg Local Municipality in the Western Cape, and the Namakwa District in the Northern Cape.
SAWS reports that winds along the coast will initially be light to moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh from the south in the afternoon. For the Northern Cape, evening fog is expected along the coast, with conditions being fine and cool to warm in the west, while the east will experience partly cloudy, windy, and cool to cold weather. Winds along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly, transitioning to light to moderate north-westerly in the afternoon.
Additionally, SAWS has warned of extremely high fire danger conditions over the Nama-Khoi and Hantam Local Municipalities in the Northern Cape, as well as Matzikama and Cederberg Local Municipalities in the Western Cape. The weather outlook for Friday and Saturday suggests fine, cold conditions across the central parts of the country, with partly cloudy and cool conditions expected elsewhere on Friday, including isolated showers along the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
