Several cultural projects to be considered as part of a Tunisian-Romanian cooperation programme were discussed during a meeting on Friday between Cultural Affairs Minister Hayet Guettat Guermazi and Romania's Ambassador to Tunisia Valentin-Ciprian Muntean, according to a ministry press release. One of the projects mooted by the Romanian ambassador was the organisation of a joint event to commemorate the 50th anniversary this year of the death of Georges Sébastian (1974), the Romanian aesthete who built "Dar Sébastian" - the current Hammamet International Cultural Centre (CCIH) - in 1927. The idea is to highlight the history and heritage of the Romanian aristocrat Georges Sébastian (1896-1974), who, captivated by the charm of the area, built a sumptuous villa in the local style, combining tradition and modernity, a place of inspiration for artists, now known as the "Maison de la Méditerranée pour la culture et les arts." The meeting also offered an opportunity to discuss other bilateral cooperation projects : A twinning project between the National Centre of Cinema and Image of Tunisia (CNCI) and its Romanian counterpart, the launch of Romanian cultural days in Tunisia focusing on tangible and intangible heritage, the organisation of a film evening dedicated to Tunisian films that have won international awards, as well as an event focusing on the history of the fights that took place in the amphitheatre of El Jem and the Roman Theatre of Carthage, which which are believed to have been used for gladiatorial combats.
