Couple in court in connection with stolen copper infrastructure

Concerted efforts to eradicate infrastructural damages and theft of our non-ferrous metals yielded excellent results when member attached to the Economical Infrastructure Task Team conducted an intelligence driven operation in Du Noon, Tableview yesterday, and confiscated a substantial quantity of copper cable at a storage facility in the area.

During the search of the facility, members found various infrastructural property such as water meters and copper cable on the premises. A Hyundai sedan filled with two bags of infrastructural material was found and confiscated. The copper was positively identified as the property of various parastatals. As a result members confiscated more than a ton of copper which was handed in as evidence.

The seizure that is estimated at more than R160 000.00, resulted in the arrest of a couple, a man and woman aged between 35 and 45. They will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court once they’re charged. They face charges related to the contravention of the Criminal Matter Amendment Act.
