The The court verdict against Ennahdha leader Rached Ghannouchi and his son-in-law Rafik Abdessalem in the "lobbying" case lacked the "minimum conditions for fair trial," spokesperson for the movement, Imed Khemiri, said during a press conference held on Monday in Tunis. Khemiri reiterated that 'the movement did not receive any funds from abroad', adding 'its financial accounts were examined by the Court of Auditors.' He pointed out that the Executive targeted those who opposed the July 25 movement, ahead of the organization of the presidential elections at the end of 2024. On February 1, the Criminal Chamber Specialized in Crimes of Financial Corruption at the Tunis Court of First Instance sentenced Rached Channouchi and Former Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem, to three years in prison. The Court also imposed on Ennahdha movement a fine of $ 1.170 million or equivalent in Tunisian dinar in the case related to the party's receipt of financial donations from a foreign party, spokesperson for the Tunis Court of First Instance Mohamed Zitouna had told TAP.
