Czech Covid-19 infection figures soar to a new record

Authorities in the Czech Republic have announced a new record level of cases of Covid-19 on Friday: 27,717 infections in the last 24 hours. The Health Ministry data showed the seven-day incidence rate has reached 1,231 per 100,000 people. Some 6,000 people are being treated in hospital for Covid-19. Czech President Milos Zeman is also in hospital after testing positive for the virus. His illness meant the planned appointment of Petr Fiala as the country’s prime minister had to be postponed.
