Deputy Minister in the Presidency to handover books to Mmahlee library

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Nomasonto Motaung, will on Wednesday hand over books donated by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) to Mmahlee Public Library in Limpopo. The book handover is part of the Presidential Reading Initiative to encourage all South Africans to be part of the reading drive. The GCIS donation of books to identified beneficiaries is a contribution towards the empowerment of communities. During the 2019 State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa made a call for the country to improve its literacy levels, which starts with improving reading capabilities. The Mmahlee Public Library in Pudiakgopa village plays a crucial role in providing access to information for its community members. The library serves as a hub for lifelong learning, offering educational materials for school children and reference resources for post-matric students. The book hand over will also highlight the vital role of libraries in bringing people together , fostering connect ions and promoting unity through exchange of ideas and lifelong learning through literacy development. Deputy Minister in the Presidency Kenneth Morolong handed over books in the North West on Friday. He said it was important for learners to be encouraged to study so that they can realise their dreams. 'There is a need to tell our learners to read,' he said. Morolong said government will encourage the private sector to get involved in the donation of books to schools. The GCIS has also donated books to Mosikare Secondary School in Mantsa village in Mahikeng. Source: South African Government News Agency
