Pietermaritzburg: Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong, is spearheading service delivery initiatives in KwaZulu Natal as part of the celebrations marking 30 years of freedom and democracy in the region. The Deputy Minister's activities include educational and community engagement efforts aimed at fostering development and inclusivity. According to South African Government News Agency, Deputy Minister Morolong has already conducted an educational guided tour at Inanda and is set to visit the Old Prison in Pietermaritzburg today. Earlier this week, he visited Open Gate Special School, which caters to students with special educational needs, aligning his visit with the commemoration of Disability Rights Awareness Month. This observance is crucial for encouraging societal change to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities by removing social barriers and altering perceptions. The Deputy Minister's service delivery initiatives also include support for the digital migration process. In colla boration with the Universal Service and Access Agency of South Africa, the government is transitioning from analogue to digital signals, with indigent households receiving subsidized set-top-boxes. Morolong visited households benefiting from these installations, underscoring the government's commitment to enhancing access to digital services. Additionally, Morolong's visit included a stop at the uMgungundlovu community radio station. There, he reiterated the government's dedication to bolstering community media, which plays a pivotal role in giving voice to local populations and disseminating information to the masses. To wrap up the day's activities, Deputy Minister Morolong engaged with the community at a taxi rank activation, encouraging participation in the 30 Years of Freedom celebrations.
