Musina: Deputy Minister of Police Polly Boshielo, joined by an array of local and regional officials, conducted a Safer Festive Season Operational Inspection Tour at Musina and Beitbridge Port of Entry in Limpopo's Vhembe District. The inspection, held on December 31, 2024, aimed to evaluate safety measures and progress in combating cross-border crime, ensuring a secure transition into 2025. According to South African Police Service, the inspection was attended by notable figures including MEC for Community Safety and Transport Violet Mathye, Vhembe District Executive Mayor Freda Nkondo, and Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. The initiative focused on the cooperative efforts of the South African Police Service and Border Management Authority to maintain security, particularly at the strategic Beitbridge Port of Entry. The event was further graced by the presence of Executive Regional Commander of the Border Management Authority, Assistant Commissioner Mpilo, and other high-ranking officials. A multi-disciplinary law enforcement parade at Musina Mall and subsequent roadblock on the N1 road were part of the operations, involving stop-and-search activities and distribution of safety pamphlets to motorists. The entourage moved to Beitbridge Port of Entry for a comprehensive inspection, evaluating daily border operations with the aid of advanced equipment such as drones. The Deputy Minister also examined the Department of Home Affairs and SARS Customs offices, and led patrols along the Beitbridge to Tshirundu fence, including chopper patrols on the Eastern Borderline. Addressing the officers, Deputy Minister Boshielo emphasized the importance of police safety during the festive season, urging law enforcement to utilize their constitutional powers for protection. She firmly warned against corruption within the force, stressing zero tolerance for such behavior. Additionally, she highlighted concerns over the significant financial burden of civil claims on the organization , advising caution and adherence to proper arrest procedures.
