SOWETO: Deputy President Paul Mashatile is participating in the African Bank Soweto Marathon today, joining an estimated 25,000 runners across various race categories. According to South African Government News Agency, the Deputy President is competing in the 10km category of the event, which also features a main marathon of 42km and a half marathon of 21km. Following his participation in the race, Mashatile is scheduled to attend the prize-giving ceremony at the marathon's conclusion. The marathon is held at the NASREC Precinct, drawing a large number of participants and spectators. Among those taking part are members of the South African Police Service (SAPS). In a post on the social media platform X, SAPS Gauteng announced that 123 of its members from stations and units across the province are participating. SAPS emphasized the importance of physical fitness and mental alertness for its members in performing their duties, encouraging them to engage in such physical activities.
