Pretoria: Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) Minister Dean Macpherson has welcomed the election of the Independent Development Trust (IDT) chairperson and deputy chairperson, describing it as a step toward cleaning up the agency. Zimbini Hill was elected as chairperson, while Professor Raymond Nkado was elected as deputy chairperson during the first sitting of the board since its appointment this year.
According to South African Government News Agency, Minister Macpherson expressed his approval of the leadership roles assumed by Hill and Nkado, noting their critical contributions during challenging times for the IDT. He emphasized that their renewed mandate is an endorsement of their efforts to enhance governance, improve infrastructure delivery, and rebuild public confidence in the agency.
The Minister highlighted the importance of continuity, noting that both Hill and Nkado have previously served on the board. This experience is deemed essential as the IDT seeks to reposition itself as a key player in social infrastructure delivery and job creation.
Macpherson further stated that the IDT’s role is pivotal in transforming South Africa into a vibrant construction hub. He underscored the significance of appointing a credible and capable board to fulfill this mission and expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the board to improve service delivery, increase job creation, and ensure the responsible and transparent use of public funds.
