Eskom and KEPCO KPS Forge Strategic Partnership on Research and Improvement

Johannesburg: Eskom has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korea Plant Service and Engineering Co., Ltd. (KEPCO KPS) to establish a strategic partnership focused on non-commercial research, technical consulting, and innovation. In a statement on Thursday, the power utility detailed that this agreement sets out a framework for collaboration aimed at enhancing Eskom's operational performance and supporting its long-term sustainability objectives.

According to South African Government News Agency, the two organizations will cooperate across six key focus areas under the MoU signed on Thursday. These include exploring strategic cooperation and the exchange of information related to critical spares' replenishment, as well as identifying, implementing, and evaluating potential technical projects. Further, the partnership will support asset development plans, improve the performance of existing plants, and manage assets effectively.

The collaboration will also delve into digitalization efforts such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, and data analytics. This will involve training, skills development, and knowledge transfer to modernize and achieve an intelligent power grid. Energy transition, green and smart research and development, and plant construction with a focus on socioeconomics and climate change risk mitigation will also be prioritized.

Additionally, the MoU emphasizes enhancing human resources development through skills transfer, training, employee exchange programs, study tours, workshops, and sharing of studies and reports.
