Eswatini Crafts Shine at Decorex Johannesburg 2026

Johannesburg: A woven grass lampshade, a soapstone bowl, and a ceramic piece that carries decades of tradition in its glaze were among the standout items at Decorex Johannesburg 2026. These pieces, which may seem like typical souvenirs, were presented as design staples at one of Africa's largest interior design and décor exhibitions. According to African Press Organization, five creative enterprises from Eswatini showcased their work at the event, marking a significant step in their ongoing journey. Having already gained exposure in Paris and Copenhagen, these enterprises now turned their attention to the African market, where conversations about contemporary African design are still evolving. The exhibition offered a platform for Eswatini's artisans to contribute to and shape these discussions. The INDALO collection was presented from July 30 to August 2 by Favourite Swaziland, MasterArtworks, Siyaphambili, Tintsaba, and Welcome Mashaba. With approximately 48,000 visitors comprising interior designers, ret ailers, hospitality buyers, and design professionals from across South Africa and the region, the exhibition highlighted a range of materials including ceramics, woven grass, sisal lighting, soapstone, and home accessories. These items, crafted by hand and rooted in Eswatini's craft heritage, were reimagined through collaborations with both European and local designers.
