Governor of the Kavango East Region, Bonny Wakudumo, said as part of the recovery from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic, the region has constructed four schools. Wakudumo said this during the State of the Region Address held here on Wednesday, indicating that 35 classrooms, seven administration blocks and 15 storeroom facilities were constructed and completed at nine schools, at a cost of N.dollars 24 million. 'Moreover, a combined total of 41 emergency classrooms and 10 storerooms were constructed at three schools in Rundu valued at N.dollars 21 million,' Wakudumo said. Institutions such as the Pupkewitz Foundation and Prime Health Namibia also constructed eight classrooms at two schools in the region valued at close to N.dollars 4 million. On health issues in the region, Wakudumo said two clinics, namely Shamaturu and Biro comprised from pre-fabricated structures, were completed and will be commissioned soon. The governor said Mabushe clinic in the region has secured land, obtained a titled deed and an environmental impact assessment was done for the relocation of the clinic to higher ground. On social protection and social welfare, 673 orphans and vulnerable children were registered on the social grant list, while 270 elderly people were registered on the old age social grant. The governor also said a total number of 10 children who are survivors of sexual abuse received counselling during the period under review. Source :The Namibia News Agency
