Tshwane:President Cyril Ramaphosa inaugurated the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) FuturePHARMA facility in Tshwane, marking a pivotal advancement in South Africa's pharmaceutical development and health independence.
According to South African Government News Agency, President Ramaphosa officiated at the CSIR Campus in Waterkloof, highlighting the facility's role in bolstering the country's pharmaceutical capabilities. The FuturePHARMA facility is designed to bridge the gap between laboratory research and the commercialisation of pharmaceutical technologies, offering specialised infrastructure for researchers and industry partners.
The President noted that the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the necessity for countries to develop local scientific and manufacturing capabilities. FuturePHARMA aims to improve the connection between research, technology development, and manufacturing, crucial for strengthening health security and economic resilience.
President Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, universities, and industry stakeholders to ensure the success of FuturePHARMA. The facility is not intended to operate as a conventional pharmaceutical manufacturer but to provide essential infrastructure and expertise that support innovation and development across the pharmaceutical value chain.
