Rustenburg: The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in collaboration with the University of South Africa (UNISA) and the Rustenburg Municipality, is set to host a Town Hall Outreach Programme for the Group of 20 (G20) on Thursday, 30 October 2025. The event will be held at the Civic Centre in Rustenburg under the theme “Inclusive Economic Growth and a Just Transition for Sustainable Societal Development”.
According to South African Government News Agency, South Africa’s G20 Presidency, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability”, presents a significant chance to impact global discussions and encourage inclusive growth, peace, and sustainable development. As the premier African nation to host the G20 Leaders’ Summit, South Africa seeks to enhance Africa’s role in global governance and economic reform debates.
The department mentioned that this outreach is a segment of the country’s initiatives to bring the G20 closer to the people, enabling communities, business entities, academia, and civil society to participate actively in dialogues about transforming global economic decisions into concrete local advantages. The engagement will concentrate on inclusive growth and the ‘just transition’, with a particular focus on sectors such as mining, agriculture, and tourism. The emphasis will be on equitable participation in economic opportunities for all societal groups, including women, youth, and local communities.
