Tunis: Fifteen students at the Ibn Rochd high school in Gannouch (governorate of Gabes) on Saturday suffered suffocation and fainting due to gas emissions that spread into the region from the industrial zone next to their school, a civil protection source told TAP. They were rushed to the Gannouch basic health centre and to the Gabes teaching hospital for treatment. This incident recalls similar cases that occurred previously in Bouchema and Chott Sidi Abdel Salam, which, like the town of Ghannouch, are two regions adjacent to the industrial zone of Gabes, where residents constantly complain about the air pollution caused by the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) plants.
