Gabes: Former governor sentenced to seven years in prison over documents forgery

The former governor of Gabes has been sentenced to seven years in prison for issuing forged fodder permits to cattle breeders in the region's various delegations, prosecutor at the Gabes Court of First Instance, Faouzi Dergham, told TAP on Wednesday. The case dates back to November 2022, Dergham said, adding that the sentence was handed down on Monday evening by the Criminal Chamber of the same court. He explained that the Criminal Chamber first sentenced the former governor of Gabes and a manager in the governorate to five years in prison, both of whom were found guilty of forgery and the use of forged documents by a public official, according to the provisions of Chapter 55 of the Penal Code. The Criminal Chamber also decided to sentence the former governor of Gabes to two years in prison for abuse of office with the aim of damaging the administration. It also deprived the defendant of the right to carry out public service activities, the right to wear badges of honour and the right to vote and ordered h im to pay the costs of the proceedings.
