Gauteng: Eight suspects have been arrested and illicit goods valued at R572,490 have been seized in a police operation in Gauteng. The operation, described as a joint effort by the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, SAPS Lenasia, and Gauteng Wardens, targeted counterfeit and illicit goods in Lenasia. According to South African Government News Agency, the South African Police Service (SAPS) stated that the operation took place on Tuesday, 29 October 2024. The operation led to the seizure of 4001 illicit items, including cellphone accessories, consumable goods, and pharmaceutical products. Seven suspects were arrested for dealing in illicit goods, while one suspect was arrested for theft. The SAPS emphasized that this operation reflects their commitment to combating counterfeit and illicit trade, with the goal of protecting consumers and legitimate businesses. The arrested suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
