The German Athletics Federation ( DLV ) is planning a bid to host the 2029 or 2031 world championships in Munich . The DLV said on Sunday that a motion for a statement of intent was passed at the DLV assembly in Dresden . Germany hosted the worlds 1993 in Stuttgart and 2009 in Berlin . Munich ' s Olympic Stadium was the venue for European championships in 2002 and 2022 . All four events drew big and enthusiastic crowds . " For us , Munich is an ideal location for world championships in athletics , with good prospects in the event of a bid ," DLV chairman Idriss Gonschinska said . He said first talks have been held with the city of Munich and the governing body World Athletics .
