Exports of grape tomatoes, produced under the Tunisian-Dutch project “Farhet Sahara,” have currently reached 7,000 tonnes.

“According to estimates, the export volume of these tomatoes should reach 10,000 tonnes in the 2023 season,” an official from the project’s management told TAP.

Covering an area of 40 ha, this project involves the cultivation of tomatoes in geothermal greenhouses and provides employment for a thousand people, including 86 tertiary graduates.

A programme to enlarge this project foresees the dedication of an area of 120 ha in Oudhref for the production of tomatoes whose irrigation will be ensured through a seawater desalination plant, the same source affirmed.
